Valley Saga final part

The disaster causes several deaths and the destruction of a lot of houses in the area, and Paul is desperately upset by losing Claire. Maureen tells him that Claire was ill and that her actions in saving Vanessa were heroic, in knowing that she was putting strain on her heart. He is touched and amazed. Andrew returns from America, realising that his actions in not taking care of the land, and selling property for quick profit, have caused his mother's death and that of several others, and while he is a hard man, he feels guilty. He returns to Shallowford and tells his former partner, Shawcrosse that he is going to insist that he sell back the farm that he bought a few years ago, which was part of the estate, or he will turn him in to the police. Shawcrosse is furious but has to agree. Andrew gets the farm put into his father's name, and goes to see him. He can see that he is still grieving for Claire, but he is pleased to see his son. He tells him how he has regained the farm and put it in Paul's name. He goes to see his wife, who has never tried to get a divorce or remarry and they have a long talk. They still have affection for each other, and decide to give the marriage another try, so Andrew moves back home. Paul is now in his 70s and leads a quiet life, keeping an eye on the estate and reading and buying things for the house. Andrew sets up a small antique business and He and Paul enjoy finding old things. However he is saddened by losing old friends among his tenants, like the Potter brothers and Henry Pitts. He and Andrew get on better now, and his son in law and daughter, Patrick and Mary, have a son who is also keen on farming. John, the youngest goes into TV producing scientific and historical documentaries. Paul lives to a very old age, and in 1965, he goes to see Winston Churchill's funeral. He is glad to see his children and grandchildren, who all live in the UK now, and enjoys his life in spite of missing Claire. He dies outdoors on his estate, as he wished to do.
